Cedar is the whole conversation up here
The ground around the lake is thin over limestone and it grows Ashe juniper faster than anything else. Left alone it closes in — off the fenceline, up the driveway, right against the house — and it takes the live oaks with it, because a live oak motte crowded by cedar loses the light and the water it needs.
Most of what we do around Sattler, Startzville and Fischer is cedar: clearing it back off structures and drives, opening up the oaks that are worth keeping, and getting the fuel away from the buildings.
Defensible space is not a luxury here
Steep ground, dry summers and continuous cedar is the combination that carries fire. Clearing a working gap around the house and along the drive is the cheapest insurance on the property, and it is the one job people put off because the trees are not bothering anybody yet.
Priority is the ground nearest the structure, the fuel touching the eaves and the propane tank, and the drive — because a drive a truck cannot get down is a drive a fire truck cannot get down either.
Access decides the price more than the tree does
Lake lots are steep, narrow and often terraced, with a drop on at least one side. What can physically reach a tree here changes the job completely. A removal a hundred feet from a hard surface, downhill, with a septic field in between, is not the same work as the identical tree beside a driveway.
Tell us where the tree is relative to the drive and what the slope does, and the quote will be real. We would rather bring the right machine once than promise a price and then find out.

How much cedar should come out?
Enough to give the structures a gap and let the keeper trees have light and water — not a scraped lot. We mark what stays before anything runs, and live oak mottes worth keeping stay.
My driveway is steep and narrow. Can you still get in?
Usually, but it decides which machine comes. Measure the tightest point and tell us what the grade does. That one number changes the quote more than the size of the tree.
Can you work around a septic field?
Yes, if you tell us where it is before we start. Heavy machines and drain fields do not mix, and it is a lot cheaper to route around one than to repair it.
Do you handle emergency calls at the lake?
Yes. Storm work is a standing part of what we do, and a tree on a structure gets priority over scheduled work.
